Anna Portnoy

Executive director

Anna is a first-year medical student at New York Medical College in the combined MD-Masters in Public Health program. Originally from Berkeley, California, she developed an interest in public service when working with unhoused residents of San Francisco during the pandemic. Her dedication to working in public health grew when she attended college at New York University where she majored in Biology and Global Public Health. Through NYU’s Global Action for Urban Health lab, she worked as a research assistant for the Uganda National Academy of Science and the Argentinian Institute for Clinical Effectiveness and Sanitation. Prior to starting medical school, Anna volunteered with the Northern California Human Rights Clinic before beginning to work with the Sustainable Sciences Institute in Managua, Nicaragua. Anna hopes to continue working in the social safety net as a physician, and is humbled and honored to serve as the Center for Human Rights co-executive director.
